Los Angeles is said to be the ideal
place go be outside, and without knowing more about the hiking trails LA
offers, there is absolutely no way you will, understand the notion behind the
saying. The hiking Los Angeles trails can be termed as being easy to moderate
in difficulty level scale, and can be enjoyed equally by experienced and new
hikers alike.
So put on your hiking shoes, pack
in lots of water, sunscreen and your camera, put on your shades and off you go
to try out the following best hiking trails in Los Angeles. Stay on the trails and
enjoy your heart out with a friend or even alone if you prefer it.
The Santa Monica Mountains
Sandstone Peak
The trail of Mishe Mokwa leading to
sandstone and tri peak is probably the best hiking trail I have experienced in
the entire Southern California. The trail takes you to the top of the Santa
Monica peak past the riparian canyons, jagged mountains and some very popular
routes of rock climbing. The hike also offers some killer views of the Santa
Monica bay and the Pacific Ocean and should be experienced at least once if you
are in LA.
Malibu Creek State Park
Rivers, lakes, rock climbing, you
name it! The Malibu Creek Park offers some gorgeous view of the scenery besides
a twisted geology boasting beautiful ranches and not to mention a long film
history as well!
You can opt to stroll along in the
floor of the canyon, or if you prefer being more adventurous, you can even
choose to climb the Castro Crest ridge. A visit to the Malibu Creek park is
worth every hiker’s time, when you are out to try hiking Los Angeles trails.
The Los Angeles National Forest
Mount Baldy
It is said that a hiker’s journey
is never complete in LA until the mount San Antonio is not submitted, best
known as Mount Baldy to locals. At a soaring height of 10,064 ft, it is the
highest point in the county of Los Angeles and the highest San Gabriel range’s
peak as well. The loop route is exhilarating and a true test of your legs. The
route however is among the best hiking trails Los Angeles and rewards
the hikers in form of breathtaking views and ridgeline trails that are capable
of raising the hair of even the most experienced hikers.
Bridge To Nowhere
If you are a history lover and wish
to relive it, the bridge to nowhere is the perfect place to revive the history
of Los Angeles. The total 10 mile out and back journey over the river of San
Gabriel is a reminder of the place deep in the mountains where engineers tried
to construct a road in the 1930.
The 1938 flood washed off a good
part of the road leaving only the 120 foot bridge to remind of its remains. The
bridge is now an excellent flat hike trial offering fabulous views and even
though you will have to fight through large crowds, in the summer season,
however it pays to stay at the trailhead.
City Parks
Runyon Canyon
Although hikers who prefer a trail
in the raw natural atmosphere to enjoy nature to its optimum, will not prefer
the definition given here of the trail, as I too thought of it as being too
crowded and commercialized, however once you visit it, you will be forced to
think otherwise. The amenities offered pay off well in the area and make it a
popular and one of the most accessible hiking trails in Los Angeles.
Cahuenga Peak
For those who wish to hike behind
the Griffith Park’s Hollywood sign, there are several different trails to do
so. However if you desire an actual adventure in the wilderness, the Cahuenga
park trail, which is a relatively new addition a few years ago offers just
that.
You will also pass the wisdom tree,
which is the only survivor in a 2007 fire besides crossing a single track ridge
followed by a tourist paved path directly to mount Lee. This is surely one of
the best hiking Los Angeles trails performed in solitude behind the Hollywood
sign.
Hiking experiences can never be
considered complete without a visit to some of these places, and for those who
have been hiking a lot around the world, the descriptions here can explain a
lot of what the area has to offer in terms of hiking trails in Los Angeles.
